SEA-EU students study at various universities in the coasts each semester, encountering individuals representing numerous cultures, and solve real-life problems with colleagues worldwide.
By the time they graduate, they possess a common European degree, chances of employment anywhere and memories of a lifetime in the entire Europe.
For example, all of the work done by MIPMAL students is through the Joint Master's Program in Port Management and Logistics (MIPMAL), which works in partnership with SEA-EU Port Authorities and combines the experience and expertise of 5 separate universities.
MIPMAL students learn how to manage port authority operations, implement sustainable transportation systems, and operate supply chains. In addition, they are trained to address the challenges of implementing digital systems and managing energy transformations.
Graduates of MIPMAL are ready to accept leadership roles in one of the largest and fastest-growing industries in the world, where there continues to be a tremendous need for highly trained professionals.
Dr Antoine Grima, local academic coordinator, emphasises the significance of this course, explaining that “The course focuses on a sector forming part of a wider range of activities related with the maritime economy. There is an increasing demand for skilled professionals in port logistics and management and the course has been specifically devised by pertinent stakeholders to address this gap. To this end, participants will benefit from the expertise of five prestigious universities through cutting edge instruction in providing expertise in port operations, sustainability and logistic integration. Participants will additionally learn how to handle the new digital environment and energy transitions.”
Moreover, Dr Grima underscores this significance, acknowledging the contributions of his colleagues “UM has been consistently actively present since its inception. In this respect, I would like to thank Prof. Godfrey Baldacchino. He was instrumental, and remains so, in bringing together academia with stakeholders thus enabling the SEA-EU partners to identify core requirements which would enable participants to achieve successful careers. I would also like to equally thank my colleagues at the Law Faculty, in particular those within the Departments of Environmental and Resources Law, International Law and Commercial Law who will provide the entire legal input. Our participation would not have been possible without the support of the SEA-EU Office and Ms Andrea Szakacs from the Faculty of Laws.”
MIPMAL does not just provide a masters degree. It is an entry point to the future of international trade. Students are transferred between five maritime universities and acquire the practical experience of the actual port operations and establish networks in the maritime industry across Europe. MIPMAL is the ideal starting point for those who are willing to define sustainable logistics and implement innovation in one of the most needed areas in the world.
The University of Malta, through its many offices and dedicated staff, led much of the development that resulted in the creation of the SEA-EU joint program under the direction of the Joint Programmes Committee.
