Description: The objective of this STSM has been to investigate the potential of the device developed at ITU and MITOS Teknology for breast cancer imaging to provide the backbone of an innovative theranostic system capable to perform the diagnostic stage (acting in the current scanner mode), the therapeutic stage (acting as a hyperthermia applicator by means of suitable improvements) and the treatment monitoring and follow-up (acting again as a scanner).
This kind of system is of course relevant to the aims of CA17115 action, as it would provide a novel way to approach thermal treatments, as well as an example of an innovative medical device.
The main result of the STMS has been the definition of the system requirements that can enable the existing device at ITU to perform as a dual tool.
The collaboration with ITU and MITOS is ongoing in the framework of the EMERALD MSCA network. In particular, one of the EMERALD PhD is jointly working on treatment monitoring via MWI.
