Abstract: Inscriptions are very rarely found in Maltese Catacombs. This may be because the rocks in which the catacombs are dug are very soft and the rock itself is pourous, so that the engraved description has disappeared under the foam like lime. Others which had been painted on the front slabs have been broken, removed and are a total loss. As these catacombs like all other places of archaeological interest, were found by robbers in search of precious things, many places have been rudely devastated.
