Abstract: Gozo (Ghaudex). The island has suffered a serious loss in the seventeenth-century, Gourgion Tower. It was unique in the archipelago, and was of great interest with its many stone drop-boxes, heraldic shields, and slender domed staircase tower. It was completely obliterated in 1942 to make a temporary landing-ground for aircraft: it is not known whether any architectural detail has been preserved.
