During the Council Meeting that took place on Thursday 3 June 2021, a new Pro-Rector was appointed, and four were re-confirmed in their roles, with slight changes to some of their portfolios.
This decision comes around two months after Professor Alfred J. Vella was re-elected Rector of the University and confirmed to be leading the University as its 81st Rector for the next term.
Professor Frank Bezzina will, as from 1 July 2021, take on the new role of Pro-Rector for Enterprise and International Development.
Meanwhile, Professor Joe Cacciottolo, was reconfirmed as Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs, Professor Carmen Sammut will continue in her role as Pro-Rector for Student and Staff Affairs and Outreach, and Professor Ing. Saviour Zammit will also continue in his role as Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer. Professor Tanya Sammut-Bonnici will now be the Pro-Rector for Strategy and Quality Assurance.
The role of the Pro-Rectors at the University of Malta is to assist the Rector in the general day-to-day running of the University, focusing on specific aspects of University affairs.
Rector Professor Alfred J. Vella thanked Professor Godfrey Baldacchino, the outgoing Pro-Rector for International Development and Quality Assurance, for his services throughout this present term.
