A 3-semester full-time taught course offered by the Institute of Earth Systems
The Institute of Earth Systems announces the launch of its new Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, with a start date of October 2023.
This Master degree programme is an intensive one-year full-time taught course, and is ideal for first degree graduates in Earth Systems and other relevant science subjects. The three-semester programme of studies has been designed to provide students with an advanced level of knowledge of the key concepts of environmental monitoring and assessment. In particular, this degree course provides in-depth training in monitoring and assessment techniques, in the handling of environmental data and in the evaluation of observed changes for evidence-based decision-making.
The degree will open up career opportunities in the public and private sectors, as well as with national and international agencies. To emphasise the crucial nature of practice in the field and the laboratory, the Institute is partnering with local organisations to offer work placements during the course that will provide students with valuable first-hand experience of working in the environmental monitoring and assessment field. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in field study trips, both locally and overseas.
A number of the programme’s study-units will also be available as stand-alone Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses aimed at keeping people already working in this field conversant with technological advances and current thinking in environmental monitoring and assessment. Students who successfully complete a sufficient number of units will be eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma.
Full details about the M.Sc. in Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, including the programme of study, the applicable fees and course bye-laws, are available online.
Recent graduates who are interested in applying for this new M.Sc., as well as final-year students currently awaiting the results of their first cycle degree, are encouraged to contact the Course Coordinator, Prof. Charles Galdies, in advance of the application deadline of 20 July at 14:00.
