The ANTAE Writers' Group is a monthly pop-up workshop for those writing in English. The group meets in the evenings on campus (UM Msida). Workshops last around two hours and take place between October and July.
The first hour is variously spent on discussions related to aspects of creative writing, collective analysis of the work of contemporary authors, group writing exercises, and more. This is moderated by a different group member each week, and so its content changes depending on the direction the moderator wishes to take. The purpose of this first hour is to provide an informal yet intellectually stimulating space for writers living locally.
The second hour is an open mic for anyone who wishes to share extracts or examples of their work (all sorts welcome). The audience can either quietly appreciate what has been read out or else offer commentary in the spirit of insightful constructive criticism. Pure enthusiasm is also a common form of response! An hour usually allows for 4-6 authors to read out their work, followed by questions and comments.
All in all, these workshops facilitate a kind and helpful space where one can meet others who share the same interests and which allows us to devote some time to our own writing endeavours.
These workshops are open to current UM students, staff, and the general public. The workshops are free to attend, and attendance is always at one's own discretion, with no need to inform the moderators in advance.
If you are interested in joining the mailing list to be kept informed of where and when the next workshop is happening, just get in touch with us on antae@um.edu.mt.
