Dates and deadlines

The UM academic year commences every October but you can apply online from the previous November for your preferred course. Another intake, on a smaller scale, is held in February.

The majority of Master's degrees by Research and all Doctoral Degrees (except for the Doctorate of Pharmacy degree) have more than one entry point. Prospective applicants can apply at any time during the year. As part of the application process, applicants are required to submit a research proposal.

October 2025 Intake

The deadline for courses commencing in October 2025 is 23 July 2025 at 14:00.

Non-EU applicants: The deadline for Non-EU applicants applying for courses commencing in October 2025, and requiring a visa to travel to Malta, was 1 July 2025 at 14:00. Non-EU Applicants who require a visa to travel to Malta were to present their SELT qualification by not later than 1 July 2025.

Doctor of Medicine and Surgery:

  • The closing date for receipt of applications from applicants presenting overseas qualifications and degrees awarded by institutions other than the University of Malta was 31 January 2025 at 14:00. Certificates from UK examining boards are considered overseas qualifications.
  • The deadline for applicants holding the IB, EB, or the Matriculation Certificate awarded by MATSEC, presenting the Medical Maltese Proficiency Certificate (i.e. exempted from presenting a SEC pass in Maltese in terms of the Admissions Regulations), was 14 March 2025 at 14:00.
  • The closing date for receipt of applications from applicants presenting local qualifications is 23 July 2025 at 14:00.
