Dr Conrad Thake is an architect, urban planner, and architectural historian. He graduated in Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Malta(1988). He worked briefly in the architectural atelier of Prof Wilhelm Holzbauer, in Vienna, Austria. Architect Thake completed his post-graduate studies with a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning, from the University of Waterloo, Canada, (1991) and a Ph.D. degree in Architecture, from the University of California, at Berkeley, U.S.A (1996). He is a Fellow of the Salzburg Seminar, Austria (2005) and has been admitted as a member of CICA - Comité International des Critiques d'Architecture /International Committee of Architectural Critics (2008).

He has co-authored with the late Dr. Quentin Hughes, the two volumes Malta – The Baroque Island, (2003) and Malta – War & Peace, an Architectural Chronicle 1800-2000, (2005). Architect Thake has contributed to several prestigious international architectural journals including ARCA,  Demetra, Palladio, Spazio e Società, and Annali del barocco in Sicilia, on issues relating to architectural history, design, and urban regeneration of historic town centres. He also participated in several international architectural design competitions. Dr Thake has served on the management board of various governmental agencies such as the Development Control Commission, Planning Appeals Board, the Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools and the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
