Applicants must be in possession of:

  1. a Bachelor degree in any area of study obtained with at least Second Class Honours or with at least Category II or
  2. a Bachelor degree obtained with Third Class Honours, if they are also in possession of other qualifications obtained following the first cycle degree.

In exceptional cases the Admissions Board, on the recommendation of the Board, may admit into the Course applicants not in possession of a Bachelor degree, provided that it is satisfied that such applicants are in possession of other academic or professional qualifications and experience that together are deemed to be comparable to the level of a first degree.

Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. The deadlines for submission of applications vary according to the intake and courses. We encourage all international applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. This is especially important if you require a visa to travel and eventually stay in Malta.

In order to respond to the growing interest for a deeper understanding of spirituality, the Faculty of Theology is offering a course to help you acquire a holistic perception of life and of the human person, and to value the contribution of spirituality to the individual and human society. In the second year of study, you will be able to choose whether to pursue your interests in General Spirituality or Carmelite Spirituality.

This course intends to offer you a solid grounding in the theology and tradition of Christian spirituality. It also equips you with the skills needed to become an animator of other persons and communities in their process of Christian development. You will develop the ability to discern the signs of the time.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Arts in Spirituality - M.A. Spirit. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Theology.

The programme provides opportunities for you to:

  • show reflective practice at Masterҳ level integrating interdisciplinary theory as a method of study and practice, and analyse the historical, theoretical, critical and analytical research in the area of spiritual theology and companionship;
  • achieve an understanding of the human dynamics at play in spiritual experience;
  • have sufficient academic and applied grounding for further development of skills;
  • facilitate innovative research work at Masters level;
  • identify, explore, form an analytical awareness of spirituality as a human phenomenon; and
  • be equipped to engage in constructive dialogue with other areas of human knowledge and apply theory and articulate pastoral practice.

The range of career opportunities is wide and varied. You will be geared to engage as a mentor and pastoral professional in schools, parishes and ecclesial groups. You will also be encouraged and prepared to pursue your studies in other academic entities and to publish in academic journals of spirituality and theology as well as contributing to local international fora in Spiritual theology.
