The Master of Science in ICT aims to provide areas of excellence in the field of ICT that are suitable for the Information and Communications industry. The M. Sc. ICT aims to instil a high-level knowledge in the areas of expertise with additional focus on fostering research and development of new ideas in these areas. The M.Sc. ICT (Computer Information Systems) degree programme seeks to give an understanding of the theory, practice and the current research trends in the field of information systems. Through core topics and a selection of advanced elective topics, you will be able to select the areas of greatest interest leading to their M.Sc. dissertation.

The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of one of the following qualifications:

(a) the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information and Communication Technology or

(b) the degree of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Honours) or

(c) the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Engineering or Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing Science or

(d) the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in two areas of study, one of which is an area related to ICT or

(e) the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in a suitable area of study or

(f) the degree of Bachelor of Science in two areas of study, one of which is an area related to ICT or

(g) a degree with a strong ICT component comparable to the degrees listed in (a) to (f).

Preparatory Programme

Applicants registering under paragraphs (f) and (g) shall be required to complete a preparatory programme comprising not less than 30 credits and not more than 60 credits as directed by the Board, obtained with an average mark of 55% or better, prior to their registration as regular students on the Course.

Preparatory programmes of study shall also be governed by the Principal Regulations.

The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in October 2022.

By the end of the course, you will be able to show:

• Innovative usage of information systems to improve business processes and services.
• An understanding of the underlying principles as well as a comparison of technology and techniques currently in use as well as perspective and future trends.
• Familiarity with methods, techniques and tools that are currently available for research, enabling you to develop and publish using international standards within international environments and frameworks.
• Familiarity of use of current and upcoming standards to enable the graduates to function and drive decision-making processes in their workforce.
This course is a second cycle degree programme intended if you are interested in pursuing a career in the ICT industry emphasizing on Information Systems (I.S.) areas such as system analysis, user-centred design, implementation, management, auditing, operations, e-business strategy, efficient development practices, technology leverage and integration, decision making and leadership, IT Business foundation, and/or to acquire the necessary background and skills to conduct advanced research in the field of information systems.
As a M.Sc. ICT graduate specialising in Computer Information Systems, you will find employment in the private sector with ICT consultancy firms, software houses, ICT service providers and telecom providers amongst others. The level of specialization offered through this course will allow you to undertake responsibilities requiring above-average insight and analysis. The knowledge and skills attained during this course opens doors for employment with large research groups in industry, research institutes, and universities abroad.

As a successful graduate from this course, you will have the necessary preparation and skill-set should you wish to apply and carry out studies at doctoral level.
