Information for International applicants

Applicants must be in possession of:

Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications

  1. a first cycle degree from the University of Malta with at least Second Class (Honours) in a discipline related to Accountancy, Architecture, Built Environment, Civil or Structural Engineering, Economics, Engineering, Law or Management or
  2. a first cycle degree from the University of Malta with at least Third Class (Honours) in the disciplines highlighted in (a), if applicants are also in possession of other qualifications or at least 3 years of relevant work experience, obtained following the first cycle degree or
  3. membership of a recognised professional chartered institution in the construction field or
  4. a qualification deemed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board, to be comparable to the qualifications listed in (a) and (b), particularly where the applicant can demonstrate at least 10 yearsҠexperience in management in the construction field.

The admission of applicants under (b) may be made conditional on the results of an assessment as the Faculty Board may deem appropriate.The admission of applicants under (c) and (d) may be made conditional on the results of an assessment as the Faculty Board may deem appropriate, but which will include an interview.

The M.Sc. in Project Management is tailored to develop your knowledge and careers in the management of construction projects. It is designed to cover the economic, management, legal and technical knowledge and skills required to successfully negotiate the complex environment of projects from inception to completion.

The course is based on current international developments in the field of construction project management. It features a strong local dimension in terms of the Maltese legal and economic framework, and includes local development regulations, contract law, environmental and occupational legislation that have a critical bearing on construction projects in Malta.

The programme of studies extends over a period of 2 years and includes taught study-units and a dissertation to be completed during the summer semester. Lectures are held in the evening, normally spread over three days a week, except for one study unit which may be held as a one- week intensive course.

The degree of Master of Science in Project Management has been developed in response to a demand by those wishing to develop their knowledge and careers in the management of construction projects. The philosophy of the course evolves from a view that project management is primarily concerned with asset delivery and is underpinned by a coherent business plan. It is designed to cover the economic, management, legal and technical knowledge and skills required to successfully negotiate the complex environment of projects from inception to completion.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Degree of Master of Science in Project Management under the auspices of the Faculty for the Built Environment.

By studying the M.Sc. in Project Management, you will be provided with the opportunity to:

  • Achieve a set of competencies, which are a mix of technical, professional, legal awareness, interpersonal, business and management skills.
  • Demonstrate subject knowledge in the multi-faceted knowledge-base that forms the corner stones of construction project management.
  • Acquire a skill base rooted in business and management as applied to construction projects, underpinned by familiarity in the application of the legal mores related to contractual obligations surrounding construction projects.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of the business case drivers of projects to provide reasoned advice on live case studies.

The number of career opportunities for persons qualified in Project Management is increasing. The MSc qualification in Project Management will enable you to work and be appointed as Project Manager at executive and operational levels on development projects.
