A first cycle degree in a discipline related to Sustainable Development or in any other area of study which the Board considers as appropriate, obtained in the ten years previous to registration for the Course.

Applicants may be asked to demonstrate competence in those skills required by the nature of the proposed research via an extended interview and the submission of appropriate documentation, provided that where deficiencies are identified applicants shall be required to take specific study-units intended to compensate for the deficit.

Applicants whose first degree was obtained more than ten years previous to registration for the Course may also be admitted provided that they produce sufficient proof of their competence to follow the Course with profit. The Board may, at its discretion, require such applicants to follow a preparatory programme.

Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. This programme enables you as a researcher to focus on a variety of topics to be studied in depth by pursuing a full-time or part-time second tier master's degree programme based on research. You will need to show evidence that a sound and systematic understanding of the subject has been acquired, and to show a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights relating to the selected field of study. You must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to your own research, particularly but not limited to the ones used in the research.

Students are required to obtain a total of 90 ECTS credits over a period of 5 Semesters of part-time study.Students will be required to register for the study-units as directed by the board.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Master of Science - M.Sc. - under the auspices of the Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

By fulfilling the requirements of this programme of study, you will therefore achieve the following learning outcomes:

  • through thorough literature reviews the student will be able to demonstrate the importance and relevance of his research to the area of study.
  • in addition to the above, the student will be required to report on

    subject knowledge in his/her dissertation as well as examinations linked to the taught component of this programme of study.

  • given data sets (geographic and non-geographic, primary or secondary) the student will be able to analyze it, compute statistics and interpret results.
  • students will be expected to demonstrate key skills such as the

    handling of spatial and/or non-spatial data, academic report writing and time management.

  • students will also be expected to use case studies in their research and model performance, trends and forecasts of particular phenomena, which will then be reported in the dissertation.
  • develop skills in application or development of technology to support policy-making and strategy, which skills are currently in high demand in the industry.
