The Master in Translation and Terminology Studies is a taught programme that is aimed to help you develop core translation skills and to achieve a proficiency in recognising registers in various languages. Whether your aim is to translate English to Maltese or English to the other languages on offer, the programme provides the skills required by the current global transition industry. While undertaking research enhancing your competence in the source languages and your mother tongue, the M.A. allows you to write a dissertation on a topic that piques your interest in a very rich and fulfilling field.

The Course shall be open to applicants who shall satisfy the following requirements:

(a) be in possession of any first cycle degree from this University or another higher education institution recognized by Senate, obtained with at least Second Class Honours or Category II or equivalent

(b) have a good spoken and written command of the English language (IELTS 6.5 level or higher) and

(c) have a high level of proficiency in one’s own native language (at C2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Applicants in possession of the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Interpreting may be allowed to join Part II of the Course, provided that such applicants shall choose either “Translation” or “Interpreting” as their research area of study.

The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in October 2022.

The Master in Translation and Terminology Studies allows you to pursue a career as translator in a variety of fields, which is open for both European and non-European students.
This postgraduate programme of study will equip you with the necessary skills to pursue careers as translators and researchers in a variety of fields. If you are interested in areas ranging from broadcasting and film industry, publishing industry and literary translation industry, to European Institutions, technical, scientific and financial translation, and court and legal translation, then the current increase in market demand will make you desirable for employability.
