The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Economics (Part-time) is held at the University of Malta – Gozo Campus only.
The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree is open only to students who successfully complete the three years of the course leading to the Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Students may register for the Honours programme in one of the chosen areas of specialization if they have successfully completed the Bachelor of Commerce course and have been placed in Category II or better in the classification for the award of the Bachelor of Commerce, and have obtained a minimum average mark of 65% in the second and third year study-units in the area chosen at Honours level.
To provide a year of specialised study in Economics covering the major developments in the science over the past two decades, spanning the major themes within Macro- and Micro-economics as well as Econometrics, together with specialised areas such as Development and Environmental Economics.
Students who successfully complete Part One of the Course by obtaining 180 credits may opt to proceed to Part Two of the Course which comprises the fourth year leading to the degree of Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) if they:
(a) have successfully completed Part One of the Course and have been placed in Category II or better in the classification for the award of the Bachelor of Commerce and
(b) have obtained a minimum average mark of 65% in the second and third year study-units in the “Economics” area of specialization.
Students who do not complete Part Two shall be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Commerce, classified according to the criteria indicated in the course bye-laws.
The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in October 2019.

Students should be able to understand the major concepts in contemporary economic thinking and apply them within the context of a junior career position or towards further study.
The target audience is students who have obtained the B.Com. qualification with a major in Economics and with a satisfactory performance.
There are various openings for economics graduates in the private and public sectors of activity, locally and internastionally including with EU institutions. The Honours degree in Malta is also a reputed qualification for entry into postgraduate courses locally and abroad.
