This programme of study is also offered on a 6 year part-time day basis. Please consult the Registrar's website for more information pertaining to courses offered by the University.

The concept behind the Bachelor of Humanities degree is that you are free to build your own undergraduate programme by registering for any study-units (time-table permitting) from any area of study which you consider most suitable for your academic interest, career plans, etc. This course makes it possible for you to venture outside the confines of the Faculty of Arts' areas of study and, within limits, explore knowledge from other disciplines.

The Bachelor of Humanities is different from the B.A. degree in that,

  • There is no restriction as to the number of areas of study from which students might choose study-units to register for.
  • There is no distinction between compulsory, elective, and optional study-units.

  • Students may be allowed to register for up to 72 credits (40% of the course) in any one area of study. They may also be allowed to register for up to 45 credits (25%) in any other areas.
  • There are no synoptic examinations.
  • The results of all years carry equal weight in the working of the final classification.

Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

In their first year of study, students are required to register for 60 ECTS credits which may be chosen from any of the areas of study offered by the Faculty of Arts. However, throughout the whole course, a maximum of 45 ECTS credits may also be taken through study-units from outside the Faculty of Arts, spread evenly over the years. Only level 1 study-units may be taken during this year and any study-unit pre-requisites will apply. Students are requested to ensure that the number of study-units is evenly distributed over the first and second semesters.

In their second year of study, students are required to register for 60 ECTS credits from any of the areas of study offered by the Faculty of Arts. However, throughout the whole course, a maximum of 45 ECTS credits may also be taken through study-units from outside the Faculty of Arts, spread evenly over the years. Not less than 52 ECTS credits must be assigned to study-units at Levels 2 and 3 (the number of Level 1 study-units taken over the three years of the course cannot exceed 68 ECTS). Students must make sure that the number of study-units is evenly distributed over the first and second semester, and that there is an approximate balance (± 10%) between level 2 and 3 study-units covered during years 2 and 3 of the course. Any conditions pertaining to pre-requisite study-units will apply.

In their third year of study, students are required to register for 60 ECTS credits from any of the areas of study offered by the Faculty of Arts. This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Bachelor of Humanities - B.Hums - under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts.
