Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. The deadlines for submission of applications vary according to the intake and courses. We encourage all international applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. This is especially important if you require a visa to travel and eventually stay in Malta.

You can compare your national qualifications to the local requirements by visiting our qualifications comparability webpage. Access more information about our admission process and English language requirements.

The University of Malta has student accommodation on campus called Campus Hub. Campus Hub is just a 2-minute walk from the main campus. For more information, visit the accommodation website.

Our dedicated team at the student recruitment office is here to support you every step of the way. From the moment you start your application to the moment when you receive your decision letter, we're here to assist you. If you have any questions or need further information, don't hesitate to reach out to us. You can contact us at info@um.edu.mt, and our team will be more than happy to help.

After you receive an offer from us, our International Office will assist you with visas, accommodation and other related issues.

This programme of study is also offered on a part-time basis. Please consult the Registrar's website for more information pertaining to courses offered by the University.

The aim of this one-year certificate course is to provide you with thorough theoretical knowledge, skills and competencies in mathematics and physics, thus bringing your knowledge and understanding in the subjects to the required level. In addition, the programme will include study-units specific to engineering workshop and laboratory practices as well as the concepts behind the design of an experiment. Throughout the course, you will be given subject-specific knowledge through the specific units in mathematics, physics and computer systems and programming. The study-units will be delivered using a complement of lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions. Thus, throughout the course, you will apply the fundamental concepts of mathematics, physics and computing to practical tasks, consolidating your understanding of key concepts within a practical environment. A hands-on engineering workshop will complement your theoretical skills with basic practical skills in mechanical fitting, machining and manufacturing as well as electrical installations and electronics.

This programme of study is governed by the Certificate in Engineering Sciences Course Regulations, 2020 under the auspices of the Faculty of Engineering.

By the end of the programme of study, you will be able to:

  • Apply mathematical concepts of coordinate geometry, vectors, matrices, calculus, trigonometry, complex numbers, numerical methods and series to solve engineering related problems.
  • Comprehend, organise, analyse, integrate and connect the principles of classic mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical circuit theory, electronics, waves and optics.
  • Apply the basics of computer systems and computer programming.
  • Apply good practices and sound methodologies to perform experimental procedures to solve engineering problems.
  • Develop engineering problem solving skills.
  • Enhance science communication skills.

Non EU Applicants:

Total Tuition Fee: Eur 10,800

You are viewing the fees for non EU nationals. Switch to EU nationals if you are a national of any country from within the EU/EEA.

As a student in possession of the Certificate in Engineering Sciences, you will be able to progress to the Bachelor courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering.

The programme is primarily intended as a precursor to the B.Eng (Hons) programme. The programme will allow for your personal development, providing the means for to increase your proficiency in English, pursue independent study, work in teams and develop problem solving skills which would better equip you to follow the B.Eng (Hons) programme. Although the intent of this program is to provide you with the necessary tools required for the B.Eng (Hons) course, you could also envisage job opportunities such as procurement related jobs, or an Engineer's assistant as a candiadate who completes this Certificate course.
