| DESCRIPTION | Performing and Composing Performing Teaching 'Performing' course develops students' skills in: i. Technical control ii. Using appropriate musical expression iii. Interpretation iv. Clarity and accuracy of rhythm and pitch v. Use of appropriate tempo vi. Effective use of dynamics vii. Fluency of performance viii. Sensitive balance of phrasing ix. Stylish awareness x. Sense of ensembles xi. Use of notations Composition Teaching ‘Composing’ course develops students’ ability to: 1. develop musical ideas 2. use music elements within a given brief 3. exploit and control themedium 4. create structural interest 5. be consistent in style 6. use appropriately melody, harmony, texture, tempo, rhythm, dynamics and timbre Study-unit Aims 1. To lead others; To take a solo part and/or providing rhythmic and melodic support. 2. To improvise melodic and rhythmic material written given structure. 3. To compose music for different occasions using appropriate musical devices. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: i) Understand the various strategies for the management and organization of whole class work. e. g. Instrumental Ensemble and class singing. ii) Know how to devise effective composition lesson plans with clearly stated methodology. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: i) improvise melodic and rhythmic material within given structures. ii) use a variety of notations and compose music for different occasions using appropriate musical devices such as melody, rhythms, chords and structures.
