| DESCRIPTION | Imaging methods used to display normal anatomy have improved dramatically over the last few decades. The ability to demonstrate the soft tissues, and internal organs by using the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound (US) have facilitated the understanding of the link between anatomy as shown in the dissecting room and that necessary for clinical practice. Study-Unit Aims: This unit will enable students to relate anatomy while providing a guide for the interpretation of imaging. To apply the knowledge and understanding of radiological anatomy to all those involved in patient care. Learning Outcomes: Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Know the anatomy in the different planes of the body; • Recognise the structures as they are demonstrated in sectional anatomy; • Apply this knowledge to medical imaging. Skills (Including transferrable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Recognise structures, pathologies and diseases related to sectional anatomy; • Deliver appropriate treatment and care to the patient; • Apply the acquired knowledge in other medical imaging study-units. Reading List: WEIR J & ABRAHAMS P H, (1992), An Imaging Atlas of Human Anatomy, Wolfe. |
