DEPARTMENT Architecture and Urban Design

DESCRIPTION This study-unit aims to help develop and consolidate architectural theories covered in the first semester. Based on weekly seminars given by students on topics assigned, the study-unit aims to introduce and apply same to contemporary building typologies. Topics of seminars vary from one year to another. Past topics include architectural offices, multi storey buildings, places of worship, and educational buildings ranging from kindergartens to universities, hospitals and hotels.

In studying case studies illustrative of these various typologies, students have to assess their suitability not just in terms of architectural and structural concepts employed but also materials used and respective detailing involved.

As in semester I of Year IV, a design project, developed as seminars progress during the semester, is assigned to each student. Topics will be developed together with the lecturer.
