| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit gives students the opportunity to reflect on their experience of the entire course. It is taken at the end of the students' formal coursework and aims to assist students to integrate learnings from prior coursework and enhance their preparedness to counsel clients in their Practicum settings. Advanced study is included on ethical practice and interventions following assessment. The emphasis is on integrating counselling theory, skills, techniques, assessment and interventions to provide ethically sound, developmentally appropriate, and culturally sensitive services to clients. The unit also emphasises development of case conceptualisation and intervention skills for counselling specific client populations, such as children. This study-unit will include 50 hours of practicum. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to: - Integrate counselling theory, skills, techniques, and assessment. - Develop competency in case conceptualisation and interventions treatment planning. - Assist students in acquiring advanced understanding of counselling ethics, multicultural sensitivity, and clients' developmental stages. - Assist students in acquiring knowledge and skills in counselling specific client populations. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate the ability to integrate counselling theory, techniques, skills, and assessments into a comprehensive strategy of interventions appropriate to a particular counselling client. - Define and apply advanced concepts in ethics and multicultural counselling. - Demonstrate an understanding of the counselling needs of specific client populations. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate case conceptualisation skills as a basis for intervention planning with various individual clients and families. - Present comprehensive intervention strategies in preparation to counsel a range of potential clients. - Demonstrate the ability to integrate all elements of the counselling process into process. - Articulate the ethical, cultural, and developmental considerations in working with specific clients. - Demonstrate the ability to work within the boundaries of the profession, knowing when to refer and how to work in transdisciplinary teamwork and settings.
