DESCRIPTION This study-unit is concerned with the study of the planning process and of how different notions have emerged and developed in different political and cultural areas. This study-unit will take into consideration the relationships between economic and technological development, urbanisation, politics and culture, all from a planning point of view. Students will also examine and assess selected institutional frameworks devised for city governance, in the context of contemporary political, economic and social issues affecting urban areas. Students will be assessed by analysing planning practices and procedures applied to current development projects. The objective of the study-unit is to enable the student to assess policies, planning procedures, apply impact assessment procedures and understand impact on the surrounding environment.
