DESCRIPTION The study-unit shall comprise of a number of topics of relevance to team dynamics. It will relate these dynamics from a leadership perspective.

In light of this, the study-unit shall comprise of the following:
- Introduction to team dynamics;
- The Individual and the group;
- Leadership in team behavior;
- Formation of groups and subtle dynamics;
- Cohesion and development in view of performance;
- Structure of teams;
- Influence, Power and Conflict in teams;
- Decision-making;
- Performance issues in teams;
- Intergroup relations and context.

Study-unit Aims:

The Study-Unit has three specific aims:
- To support the development of a knowledgeable and evidence-based opinion about team dynamics and separate myth from fact;
- To generate discussion about the criticality of specific team behaviours on performance and team effectiveness;
- To develop insights about the quality of leadership in the context of team dysfunctions and their improvement.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Distinguish between individual and team performance;
- Describe the concepts related to team dynamics like 'cohesion', 'group think', 'influence' and 'power';
- Understand complex human behaviour in teams;
- Appreciate the central role of leadership in effective teams.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Assess dimensions that predict the level of team effectiveness;
- Relate complex team dynamics to real life / case-study scenarios;
- Articulate specific management practices that impact on team behavior.
