DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides business students with a fundamental understanding of the nature of business research, the research process and the different research methodologies. An overview of some common qualitative and quantitative approaches as well as their underlying principles will be provided to enhance the students' familiarisation with such concepts. In addition, the unit shall provide an understanding of the typical research report and presentation. Study-Unit Aims: The aims of this study-unit are: - To familiarise students with the nature of business research, - To guide students through the research process, - To familiarise students with some of the most common and popular research methods and designs used in social science, - To assist students with grasping the relevance and effectiveness of quantitative, qualitative and mixed method approaches. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Understand the purpose and value of business research; - Plan a research project by formulating the research topic and the research design; - Critically review the literature; - Understand the research ethics and plagiarism issues; - Collect primary and secondary data; - Analyse quantitative and qualitative data; - Write and present the research project. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Plan and conduct research projects in any field related to social science; - Determine the value of the research they come across and correctly interpret the results of that research.
