| DESCRIPTION | This is a final study unit in a three year course of Violoncello performance study. Students will: - improve their playing ability as much as possible within the period of one semester; - make progress in overcoming technical deficiencies (i.e. intonation, tone production, rhythm, etc.); - master new repertoire (contemporary music has to take considerable part of student’s repertoire, along with polyphonic pieces and concertos with cadenza solo); - gain sophistication in their ability to interpret music; - gain performing experience by playing on student recitals and area meetings. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit is aimed to summarize and consolidate technical and performing skills gained during all previous years of studying. Strong connection should be made between the technique as a tool and interpretation according to the style and genre of a music piece. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - understand and use principles of interpretation, music form analysis of a new music piece; - understand main principles of playing cadenza solo, and be able to play one movement of concerto with solo cadenza. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - play approximately 45-60 minutes programme, which should include all studied types of bowing and fingering techniques, as well as all types of vibrato, dynamic, and sound. The programme should include one polyphonic piece , one movement of concerto with solo cadenza, a character piece of student’s choice, and a sonata (one or more chosen movements).
