| DESCRIPTION | A series of lecturers/tutorials in which various key concepts, issues and topics pertinent to the delivery of critical care nursing are critically analysed on the basis of research findings and clinical experience. Study-unit Aims: The overall aim of this study-unit is to expose senior nursing students to the art and science of critical care nursing. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - critically discuss, on the basis of research findings, the holistic management of critically ill patients; - become aware of the role of the nurse within the critical care setting; - increase his/her awareness about the ethical and legal issues related to critical care nursing practice. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to understand and interpret monitoring procedures commonly used within critical care settings.
