| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is a journey from traditional games to contemporary activities in society. The student will test one's skill at "Il-Passju" and the precision of aiming at "Il-Bocci" "Ballun Stop" "Xixu" "Gwerra Franciza" "Loghba tal-Maktur" and "Iz-Zunzana ddur iddur". These games were at the height of their popularity during the British period when many families were unable to afford the luxury of toys and the children played in the streets. Contemporary physical activities will also be explored. Study-unit Aims: The study unit aims to: - revive the importance of the traditional games with a socio-historical perspective; - demonstrate the importance of physical activity/sport to society to enhance the "sport for all" philosophy thus engaging everyone in sport irrespective of social class, gender, ethnicity and ability. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - identify participate in traditional maltese games; - demonstrate an understanding of the sport for all philosophy; - analyse contemporary sport for the masses. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - identify the relevance and importance of participation in traditional Maltese games; - demonstrate an understanding of the sport for all philosophy thus reflecting the Maltese culture; - understand sport as a form of a popular culture formation.
