| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides students with the opportunity to re-visit the core material in psychology previously covered, while attempting to synthesis, make application to practice and policy and explore selected issues in more depth. Three key areas in psychology will be examined according to the following themes: - The study of human behaviour from different perspectives (Major Paradigms in Psychology); - Human Development; - Wellbeing, Adjustment and Maladjustment. Study-unit Aims: The study-unit aims to: - Critically engage students with key issues in psychology; - Encourage discussion an applications of key psychological issues in the discipline; - Provide a synthesis of the varied psychology component of the BA programme. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate increased understanding of key psychological perspectives; - Demonstrate critical insight about a number of sometimes competing paradigms; - Demonstrate insight into how psychology can contribute to personal and social wellbeing. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Critically appraise and synthesise differing and sometime competing paradigms; - Make applications to a number of real human experiences and contexts; - Become more sensitive to the complexity of human adjustment and maladjustment.
