| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit seeks to provide an in-depth understanding of current research and practice within the field of working with vulnerable children and their families. A systemic approach will be adopted as a general framework within which the protection and well being of these children will be collocated. A critical analysis of inter-agency and inter-disciplinary practice in terms of effectiveness in decreasing the vulnerability of these children will also be treated, as well as its place within the larger social system. This study-unit also aims to aid the trainee in embarking on an exploration of his or her beliefs and values in working with this client group in order to gain self-awareness and understanding as to how he or she impacts the child and the child’s various systems. Study-unit Aims: For Students to: - gain an understanding of current research and practice within this field - gain an understanding of inter-agency and inter disciplinary practice in order to increase effectiveness of interventions - understand the way actions impact on the larger systems and vice versa Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Collocate one’s beliefs and values • Identify the ‘vulnerable child’ • Learn effective interventions to empower children and their systems • Inter-disciplinary working 2.
