DESCRIPTION Agritourism can be a potential means for farmers to overcome the serious challenges facing agriculture and alleviate some of their economic burdens. This study-unit focuses on the ways agritourism can help local cultures and economies sustain and enhance their uniqueness.

It will include an analysis of both the remarkable benefits and the potential drawbacks of this new form of tourism.

Themes such as rural entrepreneurship, farm diversification and sustainability will be explored and discussed in detail. Of utmost importance is the link between agritourism and agriculture.

This study-unit will also look at the management, marketing and promotion of agritourism and its social aspects. It will also explore EU agriculture and rural development policies that contribute to the development of agritourism. Several case studies examining successful agritourism projects will be presented.
