DESCRIPTION Objectives:

The course focuses on the study of firm and household economic behaviour. The aim is to enable students to analyse real world behaviour, at the microeconomic level, through the use of appropriate tools. The emphasis is on understanding likely market outcomes, why these may not be optimal from a welfare point of view, and ultimately, how the situation can be improved upon.

Content:

The study of strategic behaviour through the apparatus of Game Theory
Optimal auction strategies and design
Oligopoly models (Cournot, Bertrand, Stackelberg)
Intertemporal choice and allocation of resources
Asymmetric information
Risk and expected utility theory
Optimal insurance
General equilibrium
Welfare economics
