About EmpowerAId

The EmpowerAId Academy is a collaborative European initiative aimed at transforming teacher education through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). By uniting a diverse network of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) providers, the project co-creates inclusive, bottom-up training pathways. These pathways equip both pre-service and in-service teachers with the skills to use AI ethically and creatively in the classroom. The academy emphasises AI ethics, creative pedagogies, and digital competences, fostering future-ready teacher education systems across Europe through real-world testing, policy dialogue, and sustainable synergies

EmpowerAId’s Specific Objectives

  • Objective 1: Conduct in-depth evidence-based research into the current state of integrating AI in Education (AIED) within the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes.
  • Objective 2: Establish the EmpowerAId Interactive Knowledge Hub (IKH) of teacher trainers, student teachers, in-service teachers, and policymakers to promote networking, knowledge-sharing, and synergies creation.
  • Objective 3: Develop a comprehensive and participatory “Train the Trainer” (TTT) programme for building teacher trainers’ capacity to effectively design and deliver teacher training programmes on integrating AI in Education.
  • Objective 4: Co-create joint interdisciplinary, innovative and creative-based AI training courses for Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) providers to pave the way for integrating AI training in teacher education across Europe.
  • Objective 5: Develop innovative and interdisciplinary mobility schemes to foster the European dimension of the produced Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Objective 6: Test EmpowerAId Academy’s teacher training courses and mobility schemes and validate them to showcase their contribution to foster the integration of AI training programmes in teacher education across Europe.
  • Objective 7: Set-up a Network of EU Alliances for upscaling the internalization and policy outreach of the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes, and develop evidence-based policy recommendations for informing EU and national policy makers to transfer the innovative, interdisciplinary and blended EmpowerAId training programmes in teacher education (ITE and CPD).
