Master of Arts in Social Practice Arts and Critical Education

The two-year, part-time postgraduate Master of Arts in Social Practice Arts and Critical Education is intended for professional socially engaged visual artists and theatre practitioners, arts educators and other cultural stakeholders who would like to connect their creative work with critical educational theories and community settings.

This interdisciplinary postgraduate degree offers students the possibility of linking theatre, visual arts and education in a unique, socially engaged programme that brings together theoretical and project-based studies. The course combines historical and theoretical perspectives on social practice with the analysis of the community arts in action, exploring the financing, management and delivery of arts projects that involve the participation of different communities. Research possibilities in this degree include arts-based and qualitative research methods, leading to a dissertation and project in the second year of study in which students describe, analyse and evaluate an artistic research project conducted in a social setting.
