Masters in Teaching and Learning

The Master in Teaching & Learning (MTL) offered by the Faculty of Education makes it possible for students to be able to teach at primary and secondary level.

Through this postgraduate degree the students are enabled to pass on the knowledge and fulfil their duty towards contributing towards a literate progressive society. The MTL covers areas such as Educational Context Knowledge, Pedagogical Content Knowledge and Educational Research and Inquiry, and provides the opportunity of allowing you to choose and specialise in an area of your interest.

With the aim of training you as a professional able to tackle any situation in this rapidly evolving society, the course incorporates the facility being mentored and assessed through a field-placement allowing you to learn practically from the experience itself. Furthermore, the wider educational context will be included in the programme through Educational Themes and Creative Positive Learning Environments.

The Master in Teaching & Learning represents a Level 7 (MQF) qualification and graduates are eligible to apply for a warrant to join the teaching profession. The two-year full-time MTL course enables graduates to teach at primary and secondary level, according to the area of specialisation chosen.

Ultimately, this course aims to prepare teachers who can deal professionally with their learners’ needs within a changing local education system, as well as in light of developments within the international context.
