Dance

Developing strong links between educational and pedagogical considerations of dance, movement, and creativity, considering the contexts and impact of dance literacy within a variety of academic settings.

Through collaborative modes of production and mediation and critical pedagogies that engage young and adult learners, we seek to help to redefine the role of the arts and culture in society through the lens of education.

We Move/We Learn. The Masters in Teaching and Learning in Dance offers critical engagement with the process of teaching dance, giving both new and experienced teachers the opportunity to participate in considering the teaching and learning process from multiple perspectives. The programme is grounded in the notion of dance literacy, which allows for a deeper understanding of how dance and movement can be utilised within educational settings, providing new insights for dance as a tool for learning.
The course is part-time over three years and includes a broad offering designed to prepare teachers for posts in multiple settings (school, studio, community). Modules include topics such as critical pedagogy, health and wellness, inclusive practice, and arts integration. Through classroom observations and two teaching practice sessions, students also get an opportunity to continuously link theory to practice.
The MTL in Dance accepts students every other year and we look forward to welcoming a new cohort in the October 2024.
