Religious Education

Our Maltese culture is full of references to religious symbols and references.

The Master in Teaching and Learning specialising in Religious Education gives the opportunity to prospective Religious Education teachers to see how Religious Education is not simply a subject taught in schools, but it is constitutes an integral part of the holistic education of the student. Through Religious Education adolescents are helped to understand the symbols around them not is a strictly confessional way but keeping in mind that we are living in a multicultural society where respect to the other is of utmost importance.

The course offers an itinerary in which students start by understanding the adolescents and the world in which they live, and the foundations of Catholic Religious Education. These are then followed by more practical themes which include the identity of the Religious Educator, the creation and use of resources in Religious Education, how the human being can be promoted through Religious Education, how different world views contribute to the holistic development of the human being, how to teach specific moral issues in Religious Education classes and the application of creative pedagogies through the effective media technologies in the classroom.

The course also has a practical component in which prospective teachers of Religious Education have teaching practice sessions, thus practising what they learn in class in the field with the help of other experienced educators.

This course is offered both as a full-time option and as a part-time day option.

We look forward to meeting you and to welcoming you on this educational journey of teaching others.
