Over the years the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering has made a substantial investment in its laboratories and procured a wide range of specialist equipment and instrumentation ranging from bulk heat treatment furnaces to coating rigs as well as materials testing and characterisation facilities. Our laboratory facilities allow for our research and teaching activities as well as enabling support to the public and private sector organisations with access to state of the art equipment – coupled with access to the expertise of our academic and technical team members.

The equipment has been primarily funded financed by the 4th Italian Protocol, the European Regional Fund (ERDF), Interreg Europe and various MCST and UM-research grants.
