DocEng 2019 Best Paper Award

Matthias Miller, Dr Alexandra Bonnici and Dr Mennatallah El-Assady were awarded the DocEng 2019 best paper award for their paper entitled “Augmenting Music Sheets with Harmonic Fingerprints”.   DocEng 2017 Best Paper Award Mark Borg and Kenneth Camilleri were awarded the DocEng 2017 best paper award for their paper entitled “Towards a Transcription System of Sign Language Video Resources via Motion Trajectory Factorisation”.   Malta Innovation Awards 2016 & WIPO IP Enterprise trophy EyeControl, a project by Dr Tracey Camilleri, Mr Nathaniel Barbara and Prof. Kenneth Camilleri were awarded the first prize for scientific innovation. EyeControl focusses on the use of eye movements recorded through electrooculography (EOG) to provide the possibility for a subject with limited mobility to communicate or control his environment. Instead of using standard keyboards, remote controllers or touch screens, these individuals can use their eye movements as an alternative control interface. EyeControl thus helps to provide these individuals with more independence and a better quality of life. This project also received the WIPO IP Enterprise trophy from the World Intellectual Property Organization.   Malta Innovation Awards 2014 In February 2014, the Department of Systems and Control Engineering was awarded second place for Scientific Innovation at the Malta Innovation Awards 2013. The Department participated with the ‘Brain-Controlled Music Player’, an M.Sc. by Research project developed by Ing. Rosanne Zerafa under the supervision of Dr. Tracey Camilleri and co-supervisor Dr. Owen Falzon, led by Prof. Kenneth Camilleri. The Malta Innovation Awards is held by the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Business with the aim to recognize the effort and work by individuals or companies which took a step further in their work and created a unique, feasible product or concept.    Finalist at Campus Party Europe Project Forum The department’s project on mobile robotics was selected as one of 20 projects for presentation in the final session of the Campus Party Europe Project Forum held in Madrid in April 2010.
