Outreach

The Department of Systems and Control Engineering regularly engages with children and young students, by supporting outreach activities that expose young children to different engineering disciplines. These activities also provide opportunities for staff members to develop their communication skills by disseminating technical knowledge and ideas to a non-specialist audience. Our aim is to inspire the next generation of engineering students and professionals.

Academic members of our department deliver public talks and tours of our facilities to secondary and sixth-form students and their guidance teachers with the aim to explain the Engineering Profession and the different career paths that these students may want to embark on. This is particularly highlighted in our department's participation in job shadowing, where a number of students shadow the work of our members of staff.

Our members of staff participate in national events such as Science in the City, the Malta Robotics Olympiad, Family Science Days at Esplora Interactive Science Centre and the Malta Innovation Summit. During these events, SCE staff members present interactive exhibitions to engage the general public in our research: our researchers exhibit equipment housed within our laboratories and explain the scope of our research work and its ties to daily life.
