About

The MALTAomics Summer School is the 1st ever Bioinformatics Summer School to be held at University of Malta, organised by Project BioGeMTThe MALTAomics Summer School is an enriching course suitable for early-stage researchers, postgraduate students, and professionals in fields such as biology, biomedical research, bioinformatics, and computer science who wish to deepen their understanding and skills in the multidisciplinary field of bioinformatics. This program is also highly relevant for educators and scientists looking to stay abreast with the latest trends and innovations in the -omics technologies and their intersection with machine learning.

To get the most out of the workshops, attendees should possess a basic understanding of Python programming, along with an interest in Machine Learning applications in bioinformatics. No prior knowledge of genomics or machine learning is required, however, familiarity with the basics of biological and computational sciences would be advantageous. Attendees will need to use their own laptop computer for hands-on workshops.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the applications of machine learning in modern biology and bioinformatics.
  2. Enhance practical skills in applying machine learning techniques to solve complex bioinformatics problems.
  3. Engage in stimulating discussions about the current and future challenges of biomedical research in the era of AI.
  4. Develop a foundation for potential further studies or career advancement in bioinformatics.

By the end of this summer school, participants will be equipped with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to navigate and contribute to the evolving field of bioinformatics, bridging the gap between biology and informatics through the lens of machine learning.
