About

The Quantum Communications Summer School is targeted towards professionals and practitioners in the computing industry, members of public institutions, students (undergrad, MSc, and PhD), postdocs, academics and the interested general public. The school will be held on-campus (Msida) and will take place during the third week of July (from 22 to 26 July) at the Msida Campus.

The school will be focusing on the different aspects of quantum communications, including concepts from quantum mechanics, mathematics, QKD protocols, error correction and the idea of QKD beyond point-to-point networks.

Learning and Skills Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the school attendees should be able to:

  1. Identify the different aspects that constitute quantum communications.
  2.  Apply the mathematical concepts introduced in the school to solve basic computations.
  3. Describe the scientific concepts behind quantum mechanics and use them to explain the phenomena that allow secure communication to occur.
  4.  Distinguish between various QKD protocols, their uses and their implementation.
  5.  Describe the use of error correction codes and implement a simple code themselves.
  6.  Appreciate the evolution of the field and the emergent technologies that guarantee the security of a quantum communications network.
  7.  Recognise some of the projects that are currently underway in Malta and beyond to secure the current communications infrastructure.

Admission Requirements
The Quantum Communications Summer School is open for any interested candidate that has some basic knowledge of Quantum Mechanics, Communications, ICT or has gained experience in the Communications industry.
