Dr Christian Bonnici West
Department of Insurance and Risk Management, FEMA

Christian Bonnici West, PhD, MSc, BSc (Hons), is a resident academic in the Department of Insurance and Risk Management at the Faculty of Economics, Management, and Accountancy, University of Malta. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Bank of Valletta plc and is an active Council member of the Malta Association of Risk Management (MARM). Additionally, he has contributed to the Maltese National Cyber Security Steering Committee. His research interests include consent, privacy, surveillance, and Digital Rights Management.


With over 15 years of experience in Information Security and Privacy Management across various sectors, Dr. Bonnici West has worked on national public key infrastructure (PKI) projects, IT compliance in the pharmaceutical industry, and consultancy and auditing, including at a leading Big 4 firm. He provides information security consultancy and educational services in diverse contexts, including regulated industries, and supports consulting firms and professionals looking to expand their presence in local and international cybersecurity markets.

Maurizio Castelli

CEO at Augustas Risk Services SpA, Director of Education at ANRA

Senior Risk Management Consultant, he was born on July 18th 1962, he is married with 6 children and graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Milan Polytechnic in 1987. In 1989 he joined the Risk Management team of the Pirelli Group. After holding various positions both in Italy and abroad, in 2001 he was appointed Risk Management Director of the Pirelli Group, also assuming the role of Managing Director of the Group's Captive based in Dublin. In 2006 he joined XL Insurance with the position of Commercial Director for the CEA region (Continental Europe and Asia) based in Zurich and in 2008 he returned to Italy to assume the role of Country Manager Italy for the XL Group. He held this role until 2016 when he left XL to start his own Risk and Insurance Management Consulting business under the MAO Risk Consulting brand. In 2019 he has been named CEO of Augustas SpA, a consultancy company within the Gavio Group newly created to offer a broad range of Risk Management services.

Professor Simon Grima

Deputy Dean - Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy (FEMA),

Head - Department of Insurance and Risk Management

Prof. Simon Grima, is the the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Insurance and Risk Management. Simon is also a Professor at the University of Latvia, Faculty of Business, Management and Economics a visiting Professor at UNICATT Milan and an affiliate professor at Haxhi Zeka University, Kosovo.. He served as the President of the Malta Association of Risk Management (MARM) and was President of the Malta Association of Compliance Officers (MACO) between 2013 and 2015, and between 2016 and 2018 respectively. He is again the current president of MARM since 2023. Moreover, he is the co-chair of the Scientific Education Committee of the Federation of European Risk Managers (FERMA) and is a member of the Strategic Risk Leaders Association (SRLA) previously the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMO). His research focus is on Governance, Regulations and Internal Controls and has over 30 years of experience varied between Financial Services, academia and public entities. He has acted as co-chair and is a member of the scientific program committee on some international conferences and is a chief editor, editor and review editor of some Journals and Book Series. He has been awarded outstanding reviewer for Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance in the 2017 and 2022 and the outstanding author contribution for the Book Series Contemporary Studies in Economic and Financial Analysis Emerald Literati Awards in 2024. Moreover, Simon acts as an Independent Director for Financial Services Firms, sits on Risk, Compliance, Procurement, Investment and Audit Committees and carries out duties as a Compliance Officer, Internal Auditor and Risk Manager.

Gianluigi Lucietto

Risk & Business Continuity Management Consultant

Graduated in economics at the Verona University, he works with his own team as a consultant for a small number of national and international companies on issues relating to risk management and business continuity. He also carries out his activity as an external specialist for leading international consultancy firms for the development of business continuity plans for their clients. He was a consultant for the European Banking Studies Center of the CADIT Group on a project for the re-engineering of all banking operations using advanced ICT systems. Since 2004 he has held various positions within the Captive Broker of the Banco BPM Group - Arena Broker, such as Account Executive on the Elementary Classes and Credit Insurance, Head of Risk Management Unit, Head of Marketing and Communication.

In 2011 he began his own consultancy activity. Founder of the Academic Risk Management Association (www.arimas.it), he participated in the UNI working group that created the UNI 11230:2007 standard "Risk Management - Vocabulary". Since 2008 he has been an Associate in Risk Management Program at the Insurance Institute of America in Philadelphia (www.theinstitutes.org) and, since 2016, he has been a member of the Business Continuity Institute (www.thebci.org). For over 15 years he has been involved in disseminating the culture of risk management, working to ensure that knowledge can be transferred from the academic to the corporate world. He collaborates with some Italian universities, Verona in particular, and with prestigious organizations, for the creation of training programs, seminars and conferences

Dr Sharon Seychell

Senior Teaching Associate – Department of Insurance and Risk Management, FEMA

Sharon Seychell, B.A. (Melit.), M.A. (Melit.), is a Senior Teaching Associate at the University of Malta. She has been teaching for the past 10 years, both at undergrad and at Master’s level. Her subjects include Research Method Techniques for Risk Management, Sociology of Risk, Geopolitical Risk, as well as Governance, Compliance and Risk Management.   Her research interests include risk taking and risk management, anomic societies and social and cultural phenomena. She is also a compliance analyst with over 20 years of experience working in Financial Services and Other Service Industry firms, working in the areas of Financial Management, Operations, Internal Audit, Compliance and Risk Management. She is a member of the Malta Association of Risk Management (MARM) and holds a Masters’ degree in Sociology specialising in Risk Management and Internal Controls.

Dr Jonathan Spiteri
Department of Insurance and Risk Management, FEMA

Dr. Jonathan Spiteri is a Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy at the University of Malta. A PhD graduate in Economics from the University of Edinburgh, Dr. Spiteri’s research interests include ESG, sustainability, public health, macroeconomics and behavioural science, and his research has been published in several leading peer-reviewed journals and books. 

Beyond academia, Dr. Spiteri’s consultancy experience spans more than 14 years, predominantly focusing on ESG issues and macroeconomic policy for both public and private sector entities alike. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of BOV plc, Malta’s largest bank, and is Deputy Chairperson of the newly established Climate Action Authority.

Marco Terzago

Head of Corporate Risk Control – Area Risk Managers Global Coordinator SKF Group

Since 2009 he has been responsible for the worldwide Risk Control Program of SKF, a Swedish multinational founded in 1907, world leader in the supply of solutions and services in the field of rolling bearings, seals, mechatronics, lubrication systems and services of maintenance engineering, operating in 130 countries with 103 production plants and a total of approximately 46,000 employees. His role is to support the achievement of the strategic Business Resilience objectives of the SKF Group in close coordination with SKF Reinsurance Co. Ltd., a captive company of the Group. This implies, in a broad sense, the coordination of all risk assessment and loss control activities worldwide (for PD/BI, marine/cargo and product liability risks) on the basis of the most advanced international risk engineering standards; advice, assistance and coordination to local crisis units in the management of business continuity and disaster management activities; the purchase of insurance programs and/or the definition of alternative risk financing instruments; the management of large claims and their administrative control. Marco is certified Risk Management Professional (FERMA-RIMAP, 2017) and BCM Professional (Disaster Recovery Institute, 2011
