Abstract:
Am I dreaming when I put these words together?
Maybe so. Yet I strongly believe I can offer a glimpse of what may happen when the legacy of Ivan Illich and Marshall McLuhan is blended with the power of human-centered design. Illich has left us the challenge of convivial design; McLuhan discovered the growing primacy of the media over the message. Blending these two influential intellectual legacies has the potential to resonate globally and to scale up so that humanity can once again become the measure of technology.
