Cities and Tourism: Understanding the Synergies
Microcredential offered by the
Department of Tourism Management of the University of Malta
The University of Malta invites you to join us for this interesting and challenging microcredential (short course).
Learn about the vital role of tourism in European cities. The microcredential is suitable for anyone who works in tourism, in whatever capacity.
Some sessions will be delivered virtually whereas the rest will be hybrid (in-person and online). Wherever your place of residence, you will be able to attend online to all the sessions.
Participants who are Malta residents can also attend in person to the hybrid section of the microcredential.
The microcredential will consist of 28 hours of presentations and debates. These will be
delivered over three weeks starting 21 October and ending on 7 November 2025. The dates
and times of the sessions are below.
Brush up your tourism knowledge and skills. 4 ECTSs credit will be awarded to participants
who successfully complete the course.

accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

The fee for the microcredential is €260. It is eligible for the Get Qualified scheme. This
enables Malta residents to recover 70 per cent of the fees paid in tax credits.

Note that the formal name of the microcredential is
TRM3004 Cities and Tourism: Destination Management and Product Development.
Tourism has a role in the economic and social development of many cities across Europe.
Cities compete with each other for international attention to attract tourism and investment. The microcredential considers characteristics and initiatives that make cities more competitive.
Whatever your role in tourism, it is useful to develop a better understanding of urban
tourism and the role of cities in tourism.

The microcredential is coordinated and presented by Dr. John Ebejer. He has been teaching
tourism and related subjects at the University of Malta for the past twenty years. He is the
sole author of the book Tourism in European Cities.
