Title: FDM2M (Taking SmartFDM to Market)
Duration: 2025-2027
Funding scheme: Xjenza Malta, Go To Market (GTM) Accelerator Programme
Funds: EUR 150,000
UM share: EUR 100,000
Principal investigator: Prof. Robert Camilleri
Project FDM2M aims to get the SmartFDM technology closer to the Market by achieving the following objectives:
- Perform a data analysis for a local airline, highlighting safety and improved operational efficiency. By doing so, the project seeks to perform a market research exercise and receive feedback directly from the user, which allows us to tune the software according to market demands.
- FDM2M will also enhance interactive features of the smartFDM Software, by developing interaction and communication with a flight simulator tool. This will allow the client to visualise the outcome from the data and get a better understanding of the behaviour of the aircraft, or the ripple effect of decisions taken in the cockpit.
- The project will capture a number of case studies and use them to develop an evidence-based-training course for pilots. This provides value as it enables the airline to disseminate the lessons learnt from the data analysis amongst all its employees. This complimentary activity can be developed further as an additional income revenue stream for a potential flight data analysis spinout company.
- A business plan will also be developed as part of the project, highlighting how all the various aspects feed into each other.
