Marine Hound Ltd, in collaboration with the University of Malta, is working on a project to develop a compact, energy-efficient lab-grade accuracy gas analyzer. This device will be designed to detect Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) emissions with high accuracy, helping industries and regulators meet environmental standards like IMO2020. The project aims to create a portable analyzer that is smaller and more efficient than existing models, making it suitable for deployment on platforms like drones, buoys, and mobile robots. By reducing its size and lowering power consumption, the gas analyzer will be easier to use in energy-limited environments. Advanced machine learning techniques will be integrated to improve measurement accuracy and reduce the need for frequent manual calibration, further simplifying its operation. This new technology will benefit port authorities, environmental regulators, and industries that rely on emissions monitoring. It will allow for real-time detection of pollution sources, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and supporting cleaner operations. The analyzer will also be cost-effective and versatile, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, from industrial safety to environmental monitoring. This project combines practical technology development with capacity building to address key knowledge gaps that will lead to the creation of new advanced technology.
