Acquisitions

The Acquisitions Department’s mission is to allocate financial resources in an efficient and cost effective way. This is achieves by working with academics and collaborating with colleagues to provide print and online resources that support the University’s teaching and research programmes.

The department is responsible for: 

  • providing support for collection development activities
  • liaising with the Procurement Directorate for the ordering of new works
  • processing of the recently acquired publications
  • controlling the Library’s budget
  • collaborating with the Finance Department
  • reporting the annual financial expenditure


Academic members of staff is encouraged to recommend publications by filling out an online form. Ordered items can be traced on the Library’s OPAC and identified through their 'In process' item status until they are catalogued and tagged as 'Item in place'. Each new work is labelled and stamped to designate the item as Library property. Books are also equipped with security tags before being passed on to the Cataloguing Department.
