Citation: Vella, Nicholas C. & Gilkes, Oliver (2001). The lure of the antique :nationalism, politics and archaeology in British Malta (1880-1964). Papers of the British School at Rome, Vol. LXIX, p. 353-384
Abstract: The object of this paper is to prove that the Maltese are not the descendants of any Semitic or African race. Jules Verne is not alone in spreading the report that the Maltese are Arabs, it has done grave injury, and should be contradicted in the interest of emigrants from Malta to America and Australia, as well as those who remain at home.
