Department of Paediatrics

About us

About us

The focus of the Department of Paediatrics is to provide undergraduate students registered with the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery with a firm grounding in Paediatrics, that is both current and comprehensive. Outgoing students would be expected to have a sound knowledge of child health and development, preventative care and be familiar with the management of the most common disorders in childhood. The Paediatrics study-units within the M.D course are designed to provide a sound platform for those caring for children in the community, as well as those starting a career in Paediatrics.

Postgraduate teaching is organised on a routine and regular basis, and is eventually centred around training and the requirements for Postgraduate examination such as the MRCPCH. This is supplemented by an additional training course and seminars organised by the Department.

Postgraduate research is encouraged and postgraduate students are accepted by the Department on a regular basis, in the main for those undertaking a focused project as part of the MSc by-research, often in collaboration with other overseas Universities.
