About us

There has been an exponential growth in the area of radiology and nuclear medicine in the last decade, for a variety of reasons, in line with European trends.

Radiology is a relatively new and dynamic specialty which has become the cornerstone in managing patients. Ongoing technological advances are resulting in improved anatomical and functional imaging of disease, and in an earlier diagnosis with medical imaging becoming the cornerstone in managing patients.
The Faculty of Medicine & Surgery has set up the Department of Clinical Radiology & Nuclear Medicine with the aim that this specialty is adequately represented at the University of Malta (UM) for the furthering of academic development in the field of clinical radiology and nuclear medicine.
Our Department aims to

  • co-ordinate radiology teaching more efficiently
  • introduce an undergraduate radiology curriculum as proposed by the European society and as recommended by the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE)
  • excel in such teaching
  • promote research related to medical imaging
  • collaborate with other departments (such as Anatomy, Surgery, Medicine, Medical Physics, Radiography) within UM
  • expand on our role as major stakeholders in the field of medical imaging
  • reflect advances and developments in the medical world.
